Fire Door Maintenance

Fire Door Maintenance

Fire safety regulation is an incredibly important area of compliance for commercial and residential premises alike. The regulatory regime is becoming ever more stringent, and for good reason. The onus is on building owners, or their delegated managers, to ensure that the strict regulations are adhered to.

We understand that compliance can be a significant burden. At GWD Contractors, we are experts in the maintenance installation of fire doors, so we can help you to ensure your fire doors are up to relevant standards. We work with both building owners, tenants and property managers including:

  • Offices
  • Bars & restaurants
  • Health & fitness facilities
  • Educational facilities
  • Retail outlets
  • Residential blocks
  • HMOs

Installation & maintenance

At GWD Contractors, we partner with a number of our clients to help them ensure their fire door installations are completed to the highest of standards. We are certified under the Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS), meaning that we are suitably knowledgeable and skilled to ensure the installation meets all regulatory requirements related to both the materials used and their installation.

We procure and supply materials that meet all the relevant regulatory standards, including door blanks, door closers, vision panels, ironmongery and intumescent seals. Each of these materials need to be carefully considered to ensure that they constitute a fully compliant installation for your premises. Every building is different and therefore there is no one size fits all approach; every installation should be carefully surveyed prior to installation to ensure each regulatory requirement is met and any specific risks considered.

Aside from using the correct specification of materials, installation should only be carried out by someone who is competent and understands their responsibilities with regards to the relevant regulations. We have competent operatives who carry the Diploma in Fire Doors administered by FDIS. This offers you the peace of mind you need to ensure that your installations are completed in line with regulations and that they therefore provide an adequate level of fire protection.

Planned and reactive maintenance

Regular planned maintenance is crucial to ensure fire risks are continually managed. Adjusting hinges and closers, renewing worn intumescent strips and periodic maintenance of ironmongery will reduce the need for expensive reactive repairs.

Some of the repair and maintenance tasks we can help with:

  • Redecorate doors and architraves
  • Realignment of doors into frames
  • Install/adjust door closers and doorstops
  • Maintain and repair handles, hinges and locks
  • Install/renew intumescent strips
  • Replace glass vision panels

Sometimes the unexpected happens, so if your fire doors are damaged, we are able to attend to put the defect right. We understand that such repairs are urgent, so if you are in London and the SE and need a speedy call out, just get in touch.

Of course, the risk of non-compliance is a significant burden on building owners of all types. Therefore, we are on hand to help you put right problems as they arise or even help to carry out a large schedule of repair and maintenance across your building or estate. Our advice is free and we are always happy to share our experience to help you manage your fire door installations effectively and cost efficiently.

FDIS Certified Inspection

Fire door inspections are a comprehensive solution to helping you understand if your premises are fully compliant with current fire safety legislation. We are able to have suitably qualified inspectors visit your premises and make any necessary recommendations to ensure compliance is achieved. Whether you have an existing register or not, we can work from existing records or provide you with a new one.

All of our inspectors are certified under the FDIS scheme, so you can rest assured that all relevant industry standards are met. Our inspectors carry out a comprehensive inspection and audit of every fire door assembly in your building. We ensure that all components are in place and working effectively and, crucially, identify those that are not. On completion we will provide you with a comprehensive record of the inspection along with a recommendation of all remedial works that we advise be carried out to achieve compliance. Of course, we are competitive with our pricing and aim to carry out works without delay upon instruction.

As part of our service, we work closely with our clients to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible. We strive to help you understand your responsibilities and craft a roadmap to full compliance that minimises both disruption and cost. So, whether you have a single fire door or an entire building in need of inspection, get in touch with us to discuss your individual needs.
